Children's Hospital - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The relocation of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is our largest to date. Planning for this extensive relocation was completed in less than nine months with the relocation taking place during four separate phases amounting to 33 days of moving, phases occurred over a 90 day time span, culminating with the patient relocation on May 2nd, 2009.
This relocation was extremely complicated as 12 existing buildings were relocated into 7 new buildings spread over several city blocks. The distance from the existing campus to the new campus was 10 Kilometers through the heart of Pittsburgh.
As a result of advanced planning meetings and detailed scheduling, there was very minimal downtime and no disruption to patient care. Departments relocated included but were not limited to: Administration, Human Resources, Pharmacy, IT, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Dental, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Medical Genetics, Plastics/Cleft/Craniofacial Clinic, Children's Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Neurophysiology, Heart Center Clinic, Finance, Transplant, Urology, Audiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Oncology, Sterile Process Department, Speech Pathology, Clinical Engineering, Laboratory, Radiology, Operating Rooms, Training and Education, Outpatient, Gift Shop, Dietary, Volunteers and all Inpatient departments equipment and office contents.
Another extremely important function completed by Health Care Relocations was the supportive role played for The Patient Move. Drawing on Health Care Relocations' vast patient relocation experience, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh moved 156 patients over a 6 hour period. This is always the pinnacle and climax of the entire relocation process and HCR's experience was drawn upon on many occasions to ensure that all patients were transferred and handled in the best possible way.
